  Dear Friend Walt Whitman

Your letter was welcomed of april 15th [illegible] some time ago but I have been very busy and haven't [illegible] time to answer it before. It gives me great pleasure to receive a letter from you and be able to hear the [illegible] on [illegible] well.

My Father died May 2nd and was buried on the 4th I was in Syracuse a few days before he died to see him for the Last time alive He waited anxiously for the [illegible] and welcomed death as a friend to take him   to a better country

he Died as he has always lived a good man & a Christian.

The Syracuse Journal says A Good Man Gone—

For years Henry Wilson has proved [illegible] honesty and Efficiency as [illegible] with itinerary [illegible]ing and repairing Clocks [illegible] always earned an[illegible] thought the [deletion] he could give to God, [illegbile] his fellow men. The poor, especially wil [illegible] his kindly words and services The meaning of the first is blessed."

My Mother is not very well this summer [illegible]

Little Walt and the rest of my family are   all well. he is quite a boy now and can run out doors and get into all kinds of mischief.

It is a beautiful quiet day here today and I would like it very much if we could be together to day and take a pleasant stroll through the green Fields and Woods.
