Mr. Walt. Whitman, My dear Sir:

The Browning Society of Boston will hold a Memorial Service in honor of the poet, in King's Chapel, Tuesday, January 28th, at 4 o'clock, to which you are respectfully and cordially invited.

The President, Col. T. Wentworth Higginson, will make the opening address. Prof. Charles Carroll Everett will deliver a Memorial Address. The music will be under the direction of Mr. B. J. Lang, and will include several songs by Mr. Browning. It is expected that the Rev. A. P. Peabody and others will take part in the exercises.

It is the desire of the Society that you may be in some way associated with the Memorial, and if you are unable to be present, you are earnestly requested to send some tribute to the poet; if possible, in the form of a poem for the occasion, and if this is impossible, an appropriate letter.

In the hope of receiving a favorable response, I am Sincerely and respectfully yours, Dana Estes Chairman Executive Committee.     See notes Jan 16, '90
